CHAPTER SIXTEEN
NICK
It was a shitty practice. It always is the day after we lose a game. And yet, I canât stop smiling as I unhook my pads from my skates. Because while these losers are going home to wallow in their sad misery, Iâm heading to the hotel for a mid-day quickie.
Usually Prestyn and I meet after sheâs done with work but for whatever reason she was available earlier today. Not that Iâm complaining. The last couple of weeks have been some of the most relaxing of my life, and all because of a certain heiress who would kick me in the balls if she heard me call her that.
âWhat are you smiling about?â Becker plops down next to me, yanking his sweaty shirt over his head and tossing it in the laundry bin.
âNothing.â I keep my head down, focusing on a stubborn knot while I try to school my expression.
âI donât believe that. You did just as many drills as the rest of us and Coachâs mood is nothing to smile about.â
Heâs right. After we were slaughtered last night by Chicago, Coach was pissed. I take full responsibility in missing three shots, that led to us getting our asses kicked, but itâs a hell of a lot easier to block shots when the defensive line is doing their jobs, too.
âCanât a guy just be happy that a bad day is over and weâre all moving on?â
I finally get the knot undone and toss my pads to the side so I can begin working on my laces.
âNope,â Becker says with a shake of his head. âThatâs not it.â
I make a fatal mistake and look up at him. Whatever he sees on my face gives him the answer he was hoping for.
âYou slick motherfucker.â
I furrow my brow in confusion. âHuh?â
âYouâre getting laid, arenât you?â
âOh geez,â I breathe and return to my task.
Becker doesnât let it go, though. âYou are! Who is she? Do I know her? Wait. Itâs the chick living in Tuckerâs pool house, isnât it? Whatâs her name?â He snaps his fingers a few times before her name comes to him. âEllington! No, Ellie. Ellie, right? Thatâs who youâre fucking?â
âOh hell no. I like Ellie. And I really like her kid. But sheâs a little too aggressive for me.â
âThen who is it?â
After sliding my feet out of my skates, I pull off one sock. âWho says thereâs anyone? You came to this conclusion on your own.â
âNuh-uh. Iâm right. Hey, Tiger.â Our teammate stops right in front of us, his hand holding the towel wrapped around his waist closed. âLook at him.â Becker gestures to me. âWhat do you see on his face?â
Tiger cocks his head as he looks at me before he smiles. âOh youâre totally getting laid.â
I roll my eyes and grab at my second sock.
âI told you,â Becker exclaims victoriously. âNow spill. Who is sheâ Fuck, you asshole.â He bats the sweaty sock out of his face that I just flung at him. âThose are your lucky socks.
